Ms. Blythe ("Ms. Joy") teaches American Sign Language at Garza and is a student herself in the ACC ASL Interpreting Program. Her mission is to provide a safe and engaging language-learning experience, where students develop a readiness to interact with the Deaf community, as well as an appreciation of Deaf Culture and its extensive history of overcoming oppression within a hearing society.
She loves the opportunity to share her passion for ASL but frequently reminds students that it is the members of the Deaf community themselves who are the true experts and owners of this unique and beautiful language. |

Alexa Mouser
Ms. Mouser graduated from UT Austin in 2007 and has taught science and Latin at Garza IHS for 17 years. She loves teaching at Garza and being able to meet students where they are. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, watching way too much TikTok, finding new ways to torture Gen Z with their own slang, playing with her cat, Max, and her classroom assistant, Lemonade the Bearded Dragon. During break, she enjoys spending time with an ever-expanding gaggle of nieces and nephews. She's not even sure how many of them there are at this point. |
